The Gassho-Zukuri thatched house village in Shirakawa-go is designated as a World Heritage site. Every weekend during January and Febuary, the village is lit-up at night, reflected in the snow on the ground, creating a fantastic scenery.

A lot of snow and icicles blanket the trees, creating a vast variety of unique shapes which are known as The Ice-Covered Trees of Zao. These are created by a confluence of conditions specific to Zao. The peak season to view them is during February. Many people from all over the world visit this place to witness this spectacular sight.

Kairakuen is a famous place to see plum blossoms, and one of the three biggest gardens in Japan. In March, the flowers of three thousand plum trees bloom in the main garden and all around the park.

In Yoshinoyama, cherry blossoms are sacred trees, which is why people have continued planting them since the Heian era. There are about thirty thousand trees, making this location one of the premiere sites for viewing Cherry Blossoms in the entire world.

The landscape of Terraced Rice Fields is one of the most spectacular sights in Japan. During the beginning of May, when farmers are planting rice, the terraced fields, filled with water reflect a beautiful view.

Miscanthus sinensis (Japanese Silver Grass) is considered one of Japan’s top 50 scenic beauty sites. In October, the grass turns golden, reflecting the light from the sun. This enjoyable sight is not to be missed.

The Autumn Maple leaves of Korankei Valley are the result of many generations of people continuing to plant trees since the Edo era, with about four thousand maple trees now there. In November, the Autumn sun lights up the Maple leaves, creating a scenery that is beautiful beyond description.

The bamboo forest of Sagano Way was chosen one of ‘Japan’s 31 most beautiful places in Japan’ by CNN in the U.S.A. The road is enclosed by a bamboo forest. In December, there is a festival called ‘Kyoto, Arashiyama flower light road’, in which the bamboo forest is lit up, creating a magical experience.
